The old guys tell they used to use a pendulum to sort out choices when simple thinking on it wouldn't produce an answer.
A weight on a string and a witness, the questioner would hold the pendulum over the objects to be chosen from with their eyes closed. The witness would get called in when the questor felt they had an answer to see what was drawing the pedulum...

I do something quite similar with a pendulum I don't do it over objects, I give it 4 directions to move, up and down, right and left, clockwise circular, and counter clockwise circular, then I asked it what each direction means, (you should work with it to get good results, so let it choose) answers are yes, no, I don't know, and I do not want to answer. I ask questions and hold my hand still that is holding the pendulum and it answers,
it has been quite a useful tool

that is what I thought was going on as well, it is very good at telling you when you have pushed your body to far...
how often do you use it ? I use it several times a day, often have it pick what to eat or what to wear for the day as it does a better job than I can.
